Acupuncture Dundas
Acupuncture is a safe and effective treatment that helps in the management of many conditions. At NDPE we offer quality care including acupuncture for local residents in West Ryde and surrounding areas such as Eastwood, Denistone, Epping, and Ryde.
What Is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture, a key component of Chinese medicine, has a rich history spanning over 5,000 years. Today, it has gained widespread popularity in the Western world as a natural and holistic form of healthcare, with millions of individuals benefiting from its practice.
The primary objective of acupuncture is to restore and rebalance the flow of Qi, the vital energy, within the body. Traditional Chinese medicine views the body as a complex network of meridians, or energy pathways, through which Qi circulates. When there is an imbalance or obstruction in the flow of Qi, it is thought to manifest as physical or emotional symptoms. By strategically inserting acupuncture needles at specific points along these meridians, practitioners aim to regulate Qi and promote its smooth and harmonious circulation.
Acupuncture involves gently placing small, fine needles into the skin to stimulate nerves and tissues, encouraging the affected area to heal and relieving tension, stress, and discomfort. This is not a painful process, though you may feel a dull sensation or a slight tingle. Many patients find it a calm and relaxing experience.

What will be your experience during your acupuncture appointment?
At your first appointment, our dedicated team will conduct a thorough assessment to determine if acupuncture may be the right approach for your specific needs. We will discuss your symptoms, medical history, and desired outcomes to develop a tailored treatment plan.
Your acupuncture session will last between 20 and 40 minutes. During your acupuncture sessions, you will lie down while one of our physiotherapists gently inserts the thin needles into your specific points to stimulate the nerves under the skin’s surface. We ensure the acupuncture process remains sterile by using sterile, single-use acupuncture needles.

Acupuncture Questions and Answers
Is acupuncture a painful procedure?
It is understandable to be concerned that acupuncture may be painful because it involves needles, which many associate with pain. However, acupuncture needles are very different to those used for other medical purposes. The needles are so fine that they are thinner than a hair and are inserted very gently. This makes for an experience that generally does not hurt. Some people may experience slight bruising or small spots of blood at the insertion site.
Is acupuncture considered a safe treatment?
Your well-being and safety are of utmost importance to us at NDPE, particularly when it comes to acupuncture. We prioritise your health by strictly adhering to Australian standards and using sterile needles for every acupuncture session. Our physiotherapists are highly skilled and experienced in performing acupuncture safely and carefully. We understand the potential risks associated with improper acupuncture techniques, which is why we urge you to choose a qualified and experienced therapist for your treatment. With our team, you can trust that your acupuncture session will be a worthwhile experience.
Do I need to rest after a session?
Rest is recommended so you can get the most out of acupuncture, but you can generally resume light activities immediately after your appointment. You should refrain from vigorous exercise and alcohol for several hours. As it is generally a calming and relaxing experience, you may feel sleepy afterwards; we recommend you take this into account before your first session.
