What are Orthotics Dundas?

Orthotics, also referred to as orthoses, are corrective devices employed to address an individual’s foot and ankle issues without the necessity for surgery. These are tailored to each person, as the biomechanics and requirements vary among individuals. They can enhance and support your foot’s functionality to relieve pain you may be experiencing. Orthotics alter the pressure on specific areas of your feet and are individually crafted from the scans of your feet captured by the GaitScan™.

How Can Orthotics Help You?

Orthotics Dundas can be used in the treatment of:

What is GaitScanTM

Orthotics Dundas

Our physiotherapists rely on GaitScanTM, an advanced diagnostic tool, to pinpoint and detect any irregularities in foot function. It conducts a thorough analysis of a patient’s foot biomechanics, producing precise images that assist in determining whether orthotics are required. When you stand on the cutting-edge metal plate, it captures your foot’s shape using over 4000 sensors, operating at a remarkable scan rate of up to 300 frames per second.

Should orthotics be hard or soft?

Custom Orthotics Dundas The experience of wearing your orthotics will be based on your individual circumstances and several factors. Your physiotherapist will have a conversation with you to determine the most suitable option. As a quick summary:

Soft (ethyl vinyl acetate, EVA) orthotics:

  • Provide more padding
  • Are easy to modify
  • Are less likely to rub and cause blisters

Hard (polypropelene) orthotics:

  • Last longer
  • Influence the foot better
  • Fit more easily into fashion footwear or casual shoes

Should orthotics hurt at the beginning?

Similar to trying out anything new, adjusting to orthotics may involve a period of adaptation. They may initially feel a tad uncomfortable, especially if they are hard orthotics, in which case a gradual wear-in may be necessary. Nevertheless, they should not be causing pain. If you continue to experience discomfort after the break-in period, please inform us, and we will gladly assist with any needed adjustments.

Should orthotics be worn all the time?

When you receive your custom orthotics, your body will need some time to adjust to them. The first step is to wear them gradually, which typically takes two to four weeks. Your physiotherapist will provide you with a guideline for your specific needs and circumstances; however, as a general guide: Day 1: Wear your custom orthotics for 30 minutes at a time, two to three times throughout the day. Day 2: Add an extra 30 minutes to each wear. Day 3: Add an extra 30 minutes to each wear on top of that. Continue to increase by 30-minute increments each day over the next few weeks. Remove them when doing a strenuous activity until they’re fully broken in.

Are custom orthotics worth it? Are custom orthotics worth the money?

In one word: absolutely! Your feet support the weight of your body day in and day out, and they should be allowed to feel and function at their best. If your physiotherapist suggests custom orthotics, wearing them as prescribed will result in reduced discomfort and a lowered risk of injuries. They are unquestionably a valuable investment in your physical health and, consequently, your mental well-being.

Are orthotics okay for people with Plantar Fasciitis?

Plantar fasciitis alters the way your feet move during standing and walking, and the resulting pain may be mitigated by using custom orthotics. Custom orthotics are designed to reestablish the mechanics of your feet, alleviating tension on the plantar fascia, which is the strip of tissue that stretches from your heel to the underside of your toes. Thus, custom orthotics may have a significant impact on your overall treatment plan.
