Unveiling the Benefits of Orthotics

Orthotics, also known as orthoses, are personalised corrective devices employed to address foot and ankle problems without the need for surgery. These devices are individually crafted to cater to the unique biomechanics and specific needs of each person. By enhancing the function of the foot, orthotics may eliminate previously endured pain. They aim to accomplish this by altering pressure distribution on specific areas of the feet, utilising precise measurements derived from GaitScan™ foot scans.

How Custom Orthotics Can Help You

Custom orthotics offer numerous advantages in treating a range of conditions, including:

  1. Heel and arch pain
  2. Plantar fasciitis
  3. Knee pain
  4. Ball of foot pain
  5. Achilles tendon pain
  6. Sore and aching feet and legs
  7. Persistent corns and calluses
  8. Lower back pain
  9. Hip and knee alignment issues

Understanding GaitScan™

GaitScan™ is a sophisticated tool employed by our physiotherapists to identify and evaluate abnormal foot function. Analysing the biomechanics of your feet generates clear and concise images that determine whether orthotics may be required. Utilising a state-of-the-art metal plate, over 4,000 sensors capture the shape of your foot with impressive speed, scanning up to 300 frames per second.

Answering Your Queries About Custom Orthotics

Should orthotics have a rigid or flexible composition?

The preference for rigid or flexible orthotics depends on individual circumstances and specific factors. Our physiotherapists will thoroughly discuss these considerations with you to determine the most appropriate choice. Here’s a brief overview:

Flexible (Ethyl Vinyl Acetate, EVA) Orthotics:

  • Offer enhanced cushioning
  • Easily customisable
  • Reduce the likelihood of friction and blister formation

Rigid (Polypropylene) Orthotics:

  • Provide greater durability
  • Effectively influence foot mechanics
  • Compatible with a wide range of shoe styles, including fashion and casual footwear

Are there potential initial discomforts associated with orthotics?

Just like with any new undertaking, there may be a period of adaptation when using orthotics. Initially, you may experience some slight discomfort, particularly if you are utilising hard orthotics. It is advisable to ease into wearing them gradually. However, it’s important to emphasise that orthotics should not cause pain. If you find yourself still experiencing discomfort even after the initial adjustment period, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us. We are more than willing to provide assistance and make any necessary accommodations to ensure your comfort.

Should orthotics be worn constantly from the beginning?

Upon receiving your custom orthotics, it is essential to allow your body time to adapt to them. Initially, it is recommended to gradually increase the duration of wear, which usually spans two to four weeks. Your physiotherapist will provide specific guidelines tailored to your individual needs and circumstances. However, as a general guideline, the following approach can be adopted:

Day 1: Wear your custom orthotics for 30 minutes at a time, two to three times throughout the day. Day 2: Extend the wear time by an additional 30 minutes per session. Day 3: Further increase the wear time by an additional 30 minutes per session on top of the previous day. Continue to increase the duration by increments of 30 minutes each day over the following weeks. It is recommended to remove the orthotics during strenuous activities until they are fully broken in. |

Are good foot orthotics a worthwhile investment?

Certainly! Your feet play a crucial role in supporting your body day in and day out. Therefore, it is well worth considering Good Feet orthotics. When recommended by your physiotherapist, wearing these custom orthotics as instructed may provide numerous benefits. By reducing pain and minimising the risk of injuries, they aim to contribute to the overall well-being of your feet. Investing in Good Feet orthotics is a wise choice that may positively impact both your physical and mental health.

Are orthotics a valuable solution for plantar fasciitis?

Indeed! Plantar fasciitis affects the way your feet function while standing and walking, leading to persistent pain. Fortunately, custom orthotics may offer an effective remedy by addressing the underlying issue. These tailor-made orthotics are specifically designed to restore proper foot mechanics, thereby alleviating strain on the plantar fascia—an essential tissue band that spans from the heel to the toes. By incorporating custom orthotics into your treatment plan, you may experience substantial relief from plantar fasciitis symptoms and aid in your overall recovery.
