Opting for natural steps to healing

Taking a natural, holistic approach towards dry needling and acupuncture may achieve a multitude of benefits. These modalities aim to not only address your symptoms but also focus on treating the root cause of the problem, working towards long-term relief and overall well-being.

Dry needling specifically targets affected areas or trigger points in your muscles and connective tissues. It aims to release tension, enhance blood circulation, and facilitate the regeneration of damaged tissues. As a result, you may experience reduced pain and inflammation, along with improved functionality.

Unveiling the Healing Potential of Acupuncture and Dry Needling

Through the stimulation of specific points along the body’s meridians, acupuncture aims to restore the balance of energy, known as Qi. This practice may enhance the body’s natural ability to repair itself, potentially bringing about improvements in various conditions and promoting overall well-being.

Embracing one or both of these alternative or complementary approaches to healthcare may assist in nurturing your body and mind, leading to a better feeling of balance and well-being. Understanding the Benefits of Dry Needling

Dry needling is a scientifically supported treatment method that may offer a wide range of benefits for various issues, including acute and chronic pain and health conditions. This approach may be especially advantageous for athletes and individuals recovering from musculoskeletal injuries, as it aims to manage pain, improve flexibility, and expedite the healing process. With its evidence-based approach, dry needling aims to provide a valuable tool for promoting overall well-being.

It primarily aims to enhance blood supply to tight or painful areas, evoking a beneficial “twitch” response that indicates muscle release. The focus of dry needling lies in calcium, which supports muscle contraction, and potassium, which facilitates relaxation. Through the stimulation of twitches, dry needling is believed to promote the influx of calcium and potassium into the muscle, resulting in relaxation and reduced pain in trigger points or areas of tightness.

This technique involves the gentle insertion of fine needles into soft tissues such as muscles, fascia, ligaments, and tendons. Dry needling should not be confused with ‘wet’ needling, where needles contain medication. It’s commonly integrated into physiotherapy treatment plans and can also be employed as an independent therapy. While it shares similarities with acupuncture, dry needling is based on different philosophies and focuses on Western anatomy.

Unveiling the Experience of a Dry Needling Appointment

During your first appointment, your dedicated physiotherapist will engage in a comprehensive discussion regarding your trigger points, including their precise locations, the sensations they produce, their potential root causes, and how they affect your daily life.

Once we have determined that dry needling may benefit your treatment plan, your sessions will involve you lying back as one of our physiotherapists inserts the fine needles into your trigger points to elicit the twitch response with the aim of addressing your pain and discomfort.

In order to stimulate the twitch response, your physiotherapist will gently flick the needle and perform subtle movements, inserting and withdrawing it within the muscle. It’s worth mentioning that the twitch response may not happen immediately, and you might experience a temporary dull ache for a few seconds during the procedure.

Your Dry Needling Questions Answered

How long will dry needling benefit me?

The duration of the benefits achieved through dry needling can vary among individuals. It depends on various factors, including the root cause of the issue, whether it is acute or chronic, and your lifestyle choices. These factors collectively influence how long you can expect the benefits of dry needling to endure.

How many sessions do I have to go through?

The number of sessions needed for dry needling varies based on individual factors. In general, most people require several sessions to address the sore or tight area. This is because the body needs time to adjust and respond to the treatment over a series of sessions.

Is there anything I should do after dry needling?

It is important to stay hydrated following your dry needling appointment, so avoid intense physical activity on the day of your session. Drink a sufficient amount of water and if you experience any muscle soreness, rest and use remedies such as a warm bath or ice therapy.

Is it painful to undergo dry needling?

In general, the insertion of dry needles is not considered painful, and many patients find the experience to be relaxing. While some individuals may briefly feel the twitch response, it is usually manageable. It is worth mentioning that following a dry needling session, you might experience mild “post-needle soreness” either later on the same day or the following day. This is a normal occurrence and typically subsides within a couple of days.
